Ignition switch question inside....

Will an ignition switch from a V-8/auto work on a 4-cyl/man Camaro? I recently swapped the tilt steering column from the parts car to my 4-cyl car. It won't start! So...trying to find out why.

Thanks,
Brandon

i'll bet you didn't reconnect the clutch enable switch .this goes between the clutch pedal from ign switch to starter.look for a plug that has a large yellow& a large purple wire. this plugs in at top of clutch pedal. the switches on the steering column that got swapped should be same, especially if the replacement plugged right in.

I believe that wire goes to the neutral safety switch...right? I have the switch out for replacement at the moment. Actually...the car wouln't start before the column swap. Just wanted to know the ignition switch swapped in with the column would work, even though it's from a V-8/auto car.

the clutch switch IS the neutral safety switch, just put a jumper between the yellow &purple. if this is not connected to good switch it won't start, the jumper will also work but you have to make sure the car isn't in gear when starting.yes,an auto ign switch will work in a manual car,the harnesses are different (manual =clutch switch, auto=neutral safety on shifter)but the switch is the same.
