Help No Start?
Basicallly my car has acted weird once and a great while. I would come out and try and start it and nothing would happen. Which sucked but now it's doing it almost every day. Supposedly the vats is disabled in my chip, but when I turn the key the security light stays on and nothing happens at all. The temp gauge flips up each time I turn the key forward but that's it. Last year I went to the chevy dealership to try and get a new key cut hoping the chip was just bad, well they couldn't get a reading out of the key so they tried to get the reading out of the car and no reading there either. They said that some wires had been cut under the dash envolving the vats system, so the fixed them and the car did well for about 4 months with only one non start day.
Any ideas? I am stumped and pissed off.
Thanks.

it does sound like a VATS problem. the next time you encounter the no-start condition, check &see if you crank it immediately or if you have to wait at least 10 mins. if you have to wait, then it IS the VATS. I find it odd they couldn't give you a resistance code, that can easily be read with a VOM meter. sometimes,"Mr. Goodwrench " ain't so good. i can show you a permanent way to disable the VATS if this turns out to be prob.

I think there is a 10 min wait involved. But sometimes it won't start the next time I go out, like this last week for example it wouldn't start each day i went out. Maybe after it won't start I need to wait about 10 min and then try right then. I've been trying like once or twice a day then waiting till the next day.
Yeah GM dealer used a little key scanner box that you stick the key into and it measures the resistence but it wouldn't pull the code. Then they tried a dvom and that wouldn't pull a resistence either. That's when they tried to scan it off of the car and nothing.

ok, here's what ya do, take off the bottom panel of dash on driver's side, find orange -sheathed harness going into column. this orange sheath will have 2 white wires & a black plug.this is the harness from the key cylinder that reads the resistance in the "chip" in the key. the contacts in the key or key cylinder may be worn down to point of bad contact.the resistance CAN be read with a VOM meter so if ya gotta buddy who is good with electronics, you're hooked up.once you get the resistance off the key,go to any alarm shop& ask for a VATS resistor pack(should be waaayyy under 10.00)measure each resistor until you find the closest resistance that matches to your key(can be off up to 15 ohms).cut the two white wires & put the resistor between the two going away from steering column.this tricks the computer into thinking the key is in cylinder at all times. hope this helps out :lala:
