Possible Short?
Alright I have a 1992 Camaro RS 305TBI. My cigarette lighter blows the fuse everytime I hook something up. The windshield wipers are becoming intermitent and to get them to work again I have to raise and lower the steering wheel. Speedometer also stopped working for a little while. Is this a common problem? And if so how has everyone fixed it? I would rather ask people with these cars than spend hundreds just to find out I need to replace one wire for 15 cents. Any help or ideas are appreciated. MyThirdGen@aol.com

First, look inside the lighter socket with a flashlight for a piece of metal or foreign material or for evidence of damage. That's fairly common. Wipers, could be a broken wire or a bad switch that's burned-not unusual either. You will have to do the wiggle test for that one. My experience with GM vehicles generally is that the wiring is usually pretty good unless it's been fooled with. Most likely the wiper swich has a bad contact internally and moving around the wheel aggravates it. My 99 S-10 had a bad ground on the ignition switch that was throwing a transmission trouble code. Welcome to the boards and to wonderful world of intermittent everything. Nothing is ever really broke anymore.

WOW old post but I think I have it narrowed down to being in the steering collumn. Maybe the blinker control arm wires. Anybody else having same problem recently?
