Ecm No Worky??

i have a 2.8L and well i went to check my trouble codes just in case.....and nothing happened! i dunno if i dont have this feature, but i put a paper clip into the 2 slots (A and B according to haynes) and turned my key forward, and nothing happened. and i only have the top slots filled with metal contacts....is this normal? specs are 2.8 carbed

Not sure about the way a 6 cylinder goes, but on the v8 motors you should get a code 12, and then any corresponding trouble codes after. Code 12 means no distributor signal, or something, which is normal. I would check the ecm fuse, and the connector itself. Let us know what you find.

Also, what makes you so sure there is trouble codes? Has the light came on and stayed on?

nah man, my car is just running crappy and i wanna know if something has been overlooked......but i just thought of something.....maybe my check engine light is burnt out ? its a possibility.....but yeah i will check on that tommorow thanx for responding man

Hey, no problem. As a suggestion, you may want to check into starting with a basic tuneup on your camaro. A trouble code isnt always going to be set for a car running crappy. A code is set only if a sensor or the circuit of the sensor has a problem. A code wont be set for fouled plugs, burnt wires, dirty air filter, etc. Good luck bud!

Yeah, but he's got the 2.8 v6 which is distributor less. I don't know if it still gives that code but maybe means something else. I dunno.

Wait nevermind if his car is an 83 it's not fuel injected, so it has a distributor.
