Help Decifyering SES codes

Okay, did a motor rebuild and now I've got the SES light. checked the codes tonight and not sure about one of them. I got 23,24,and44. I just replaced the O2 and so I think I need to reset the codes for 44 which is O2 lean. 23 is Low Temp at Manifold Air Temperature Sensor OR a TPS erorr, how can I tell which one is faulty? what and where is the manifold air temp sensor? I might not have put it back on... :lala: Next was 24 Circuit fault in vehicle speed sensor, my Speedo cable has recently shredded itself (I think it had something to do with it resting on the header, but I'm not sure ) would that cause that fault, and, does the computer really need to know how fast I'm going?

next, my setup:
1987 TPI computer
355 1987 engine
Holley Stealth Ram w/adjustable fuel pressure regulator
edelbrock throttle body
stock-type trans/converter
emissions and oil cooler removed
about 150 miles on engine

I don't think any other mods are relevant to computer, if they are, just ask.

after I get this figured out, i'm going to have to figure out why it doesn't move like it should

Im not exactly sure where that sensor is on a TPI car but it should be somewhere on the upper portion of your intake manifold and it'll have two wires going into it. As for the VSS, if your want your torque converter to lockup when it should, the computer needs to know how fast your going. And yeah, i do believe that the shredded cable may have something to do with it. There is a VSS buffer attached to the back of your speedometer. If the speedometer isn't working, then the buffer wont get its signal, and the computer may not get a reading on how fast your going. Somebody correct me if im wrong.

As for telling what the code means, im not sure. Certain codes mean certain things for a tpi car, and something else for a tbi car. Your code book should tell you what code 23 means for a tpi car.

Was the engine originally a 350? If it was originally a 305 and you didn't upgrade the injectors, the injectors may be too small. Which would cause a lean condition.

Hope that helps!

The MAT is screwed into the bottom of the plenum in back near the distributor.
