Temp Gauge problems.....Help!!!

I have a 1986 Firebird and my temp gauge is not in sink with whats goin on with my engine temp..Is there anyone that can fix gauges or do you have to buy a new or used cluster??I am tired of this gauge not reading acturately..help please

IN all 3 of my thirdgen cars the temp gauge was off. I don't think u can fix it. I just bougth autometer gauges. U always can check the temp with one of those things u put in the radiator and see how far off u are, and just use the old gauge to see like add 20degrees to it at all times if u dont have the money for new ones

I cleaned up the electrical connection at my temp sending unit and the wiring harness ground (under the alt bracket). Now the gauge reads good, like when the car was new.

These gauges are notorious for being inaccurate, both the temp gauge and the oil pressure gauge. Many times if you ever overheat the motor the gauge can get a "ghost" in it and it will never read the same again. I replaced mine with AutoMeters.
