Remote starter solenoid problem!
I just installed the universal Ford remote solenoid as outlined in the tech section. I am using a Borg Warner solenoid which is the same as the Wells solenoid according to O'rielly's Parts. After I have started the car (I have let go of the key), for about 2-3 seconds the flexplate and the starter gear are still coming in contact, I am sure everyone knows what that sounds like.
So, I checked the wiring, it seems correct. I have the battery cable and the accessory wires going to one side of the solenoid and the cable that goes to the starter on the other side of the solenoid. At the starter I shorted out the battery and ignition posts with a peice of metal. Also, I have grounded the starter with a cable going directly to block and same with the solenoid.
I even replaced the starter again and same thing!
They even checked the starters out at the parts store and they worked flawlessly.
Any ideas?

It sounds as if the remote solenoid is not disconnecting immediately after power is cut from the 'S' terminal. Try this: unhook the cable going to the starter, then jump the solenoid by using a screwdriver or something across the battery cable terminal and the S terminal. You'll hear the solenoid click closed - listen for it to click open as soon as power is removed from the S terminal. It should do it immediately. If not, try another solenoid. If it does, have someone turn the key switch while you listen for the clicks - unless you are in a quiet enough spot to listen yourself. This should determine where the problem is.

Well, after finally getting back to the problem, I tried the remote solenoid test that you suggested Pete and it seems to work just fine. When the key is turned for starting it clicks closed and when I let off the key it clicks open with no delay. I even tried the starter without the remote solenoid and it starts perfectly, with the remote solenoid=same problem as I mentioned before!
I am stumped! I guess I will see if I can get the Wells solenoid that was recommended in the tech article. But, I don't think that is the problem. Pete or anyone, what are your thoughts on this?
Car still up in the air........

Okay, last night after trying the Wells solenoid F496 and having the same result, I threw in the towel. Now, my remote "solenoid" acts as a distribution block and I dropped the ignition wire back down to the starter's solenoid and removed the jumper, starts perfectly everytime! I figure I banged my head long enough for now. For some reason it seems that the solenoid is staying closed too long.
I wouldn't imagine the type of starter should matter, but I am using a '96 Z28 high torque mini starter.
Who out there has done this mod. successfully? just curious....
