Need opinions on SCAN Tools

I am thinking of buying an ALDL Scan tool. I have looked at several on the web but I have never actually held one much less seen it in operation. If you have an opinion on which one I should buy please weigh in.

I have also heard of programs that work on a laptop compute and connect via Com port to the ALDL Connector. If you have info on such a program that would be helpful also...

THANKS!
Speedy

I have the Auto Xray and love it. It tells me what I need to know and will capture about 30 seconds of data, IIRC.

I have a laptop too, but it is just too much to carry around.

The laptop is the way to go. Check on Craig's software (free) http://moates.net/gmecm/index.html Also on his site are schematics for the cables forthe laptop to hook to your car, go with the 2 transistor one (cheap & easy to build). With his software and laptop you can capture HOURS of data if you want, convert it to Excel files and print it out.

the snap on 2500 is always nice. as is the snap on motus. otc makes a nice scan tool called the genisus.

but the lap top will do what you want it to do.

good luck
