battery question
ok guys heres the deal.i got in my camaro after school and started it up it ran fine but the radio stations where all unset.time was off whole deal.charging gauge was fine so i popped the hood when i got home the negative terminal was loose so i tightened it turned the car off when i tried to restart it the interior lights went out and staid out and nothing happened no start.i noticed the inside of the terminal on the battery was a little chewed up.could i have a bad conection causeing my problem?
A bad connection could cause a no start problem like that, but the way you describe the no lights and absolutely nothing when you turn the key tells me that it could be a little more than that. For example it only takes about 10-15 amps to engage the starter solenoid. So that battery, if it is the problem is way dead. If you have access to a multimeter check the battery voltage. if it is 12.4-12.6 volts get it load tested. If it passes your batterry is good and you need to find the peoblem else where. Also if you have a digital multimeter, you can check the connections at the battery. Disable the ignition then place the negative lead on the clamp and the positive lead on the terminal then crank. If you get 0.3 volts or less you have a good connection. Hope this helps. Rock on!
