Problem with starter after installing

I have a 1989 Camaro IROC-Z. (350, 5.7liters). I replaced the starter and the battery but nothing's happening. When I turn the key, nothing happens and the interior light dims. I'm suspecting a short. When I jump my car and turn the key, I hear hear the starter kicking in but the gear not turning.

Could it be a relay? Any Advice? Thanks!

Um, I m not too expierenced with this stuff but if nothing is happening check your silinoid and double check all the connections. the others on the board will be able to help you more. just ask and look.

Did you put the purple wire on the terminal marked "S" or on the terminal marked "R" on the solenoid? On my 1989 Iroc, it goes on the terminal marked "S".
