need help with vats

Car: 1989 GTA
Engine: 350 TPI (Many Mods)
Transmission: 700R4
need help with vats

i put a new ignition in and cut the wires from the old one now i want to bypass the vats so the car will start the problem is wheni i put the volt meter to the wires i dont get a reading and i bought a potetionmeter and tried some of the ohm values but its real hard to keep it in place whare can i get resistors of theses values523,681,887,1130,1470,1870,2370,3010,3740,4750,6040,7500,9530,11800. another ? is should i have cut the wires on the old cylinder at the top? why am i not getting a reading from the wires?

You have to test the value of the key pod, not the key cyl. Just hold each lead of the meter to either side of the key to get the value. If you can't do all three things at the same time, put the key in a vise to hold it, or have someone hold it for you. It is easiest to cut the wires towards the bottom of the steering column and splice in BELOW the plug. If you try and splice in above the little plug, the wires are similar to fiber optic cable and will be very hard to solder to. If I remember right, it will be 2 wires in a white jacket. I think one is purple, and one is white.

Radio shack will have the resistors you need.
