dang fuel guage

last week i noticed that my fuel guage would only go up to 3/4, but my tank was full, stayed at 3/4 till it was there then started to go down as i burned passed 3/4, does anyone have or have ever had this problem, i'm thinking it's the float not really sure

Mine is similar. When I fill up the tank, it will go up maybe a 1/4" above the full mark, and stay there until I use about 1/3 of the tank. Then it goes down at a proportional rate (as if the "full" mark was actually 2/3 full). Once it hits empty, the tank is completely dry. ~5 gallons showed ~1/2 tank on the gauge.

I probably didn't explain it well, but I've never bothered to fix it because I know exactly how much gas I have as long as I don't put more than 10 gallons in at a time in. (Not hard to do at $2.24 per gallon.) I'd still prefer an accurate gauge though, I was thinking of buying an aftermarket gauge.

When yours hit the empty mark, is it dry? Or does it go lower/higher when it's empty?
