Needle calibration

I just completed a search on needle calibration on the board and read a few peoples replies.

I bought myself just th actual speedo gauge 145mph and want to replace it in place of my 85mph unit. The 145 unit has a broken spring in it though so I have to use that needle off my 85mph unit.

So once I change over the parts it should be fine. But I have to put the needle back on and just wanted to clarify something.

Can I just hook up my Moates scanner and travel at 50mph and then just push the needle down to 50mph and it will calibrate itself like that? Basically just force the needle to the speed you are going while you have the clear face plate off.

Is this the way?
