Wacky voltmeter-reads too high?

Hey guys, anyone ever see a problem with a factory 87 Z28 voltmeter reading way too high, mine shows like 18 volts even though I measure around 14 volts with a digital multimeter, this just kinda happened one day........thanks in advance.....

my volt meter reads to low..

reads around 8-10 volts (guess) but i know i'm getting the full 13-14 volts cause i had autozone test it as well as I with my own multi meter...sometimes if i tap the dash, it will shoot up n read what it should be reading...

Considering they still even function at their age, I'd say they are pretty good.
If your gauge is sticking, most likely you need to take it apart and put some lightweight, non-detergent oil on it (can be aquired from a locksmith). If it's reading high, pop the needle off and 'recalibrate' it to the voltage shown by an external multimeter.

OK, thanks for the ideas. I kinda figured I'd have to realign the needle or something, now I gotta go and take that dash apart.....
