headlight troubles
i'm still driving the 86 firebird that i have for sale and a couple of days ago, went to turn my headlights on and they didn't pop up. i winded them up and discovered that the lights themselves are working, went home, and turn the headlights off and both the motors parked the headlights. any ideas on what to do. i'm going out there today to check every wire visible since its below freezing today. thanks

the lights would pop up and pop down one day the next day they didn't pop up. the lights when up will pop down when you wind them up and turn the lights off. i think it is a wire connected to the isolation relay. thanks

what i actually think it is in my honest opinion is that the motors are bad...cause mine did the same thing....i don't know this for a fact but i think auto zone or someone could test ur popup light motor to let u know if it is bad...which i think is the case...so u will prolly be spendin about 200 fo 2 popup light motors...but what i did until i got the money was turned the lights up....disconnected the wire that runs to the popup motor and left them up all the time....the wire that turns the bulb on is in the back of the light...which runs seperate from the popup light motor...cause that is how the light is still on while it won't come up....well let me know what happens....and good luck

i always try the cheap stuff first. this summer one headlight was sticking up.... it was a corroded wire. i have a doubt in my mind that both the motors went bad at the same time, but it could happen and it probably did with my luck. first i'll wait for it to get warmer the temp this morning was 6 degrees!!! too cold to figure out why the headlights won't work
thanks for all your repies as soon as it gets warmer i'll let you know what happened

i don't know if it could be both motors...but i don't think it wouldn't surprise me...cause my GTA had one stickin...then later it stoped workin...i fixed it...then soon after the other one just crapped out on me...trust me ur not the only one wit bad luck...lol...but it is kinda werid that both went out at the same time...prolly somethin in the relay...or a fuse

Hey. mine just did the same thing.. first the left one didn't have power, then the right now..I started pulling the wire out looking for a fusable link, but no luck. I'll look on the firewall for a relay with the word guide on it. would this also prevent it from coming down too? the right one would go up no problem, but wouldn't come down. If you manually moved it off of the full up position, it would go down. any ideas? maybe a bent linkage or something.
I had the exact same problem once, turns out the solution was pretty simple. Mine is an 86 also. Look at the wiring harnesses of both headlight motors and follow them back about a foot or so. My wires were actually laying on the edge of some metal framing. The metal framing itself really isn't too sharp, but after years of rubbing on it, it wore the insulation of the wire off. I found that after replacing the fuse for my headlights, I could turn them on with no problems, but once I turned them off, the fuse would blow and the headlights would stop. Check to make sure this exact problem isn't occuring with your car. If so, just use some electrical tape and tape them well. Good luck.

Top Down Solutions has a headlight repair kit, there is a link to there website at the top of the page, it's really easy to install and you will have a bunch of left over lithium grease if you need it for other things.
BTW, the kit is pretty cheap, and fixes 2 headlight motors almost perminantly

Help! Both my headlight motors have no power going to them! I checked all the fuses on the fuse block and they are all good. I couldn't find a relay anywhere on the firewall though. Any help would be appreciated.
