Third Brake Light

My third brake light hasn't worked since I bought the car. The problem is something to do with the hatch closing to the body. It looks like something should be making contact on the interior part of the car with the hatch. But I am not sure what that is. The testing I have done is wiring from the hatch to the interior part and the light works. I think I am missing some type of contact that is connected to the interior that is close to the light in the rear of the car. Please help if you have questions I'll try to make myself clearer.

The high mount brake light gets power from those silver square contacts on the rear trunk housing, the hatch side ones a spring loaded. Try some contact cleaner and a clean rag, they usually look very black almost burnt. Gently clean the hatch side as well. If they are really bad, use a pencil eraser to clean them then use alcohol or some contact cleaner. Usually that does it.

What do the square contacts contact too. That is where my problem is I have no contact for the square contacts. I hope this doesn't sound screwed up.
