Running Speedo without ECM
I am having some major problems trying to get my speedo working. From what i have searched, i am seeing that i may need a buffer box for a mid 80's camaro? Is that right. But i dont have the ecm anymore, its gone, banished.. So how do i get it to work. Its a 1990 camaro, and just want to see how fast i am going!

Was your car a factory TBI?
If so, you may already have the buffer box, just need to run the wires from the tranny to the box.
Here is a pic of my old buffer box,

It was behind the dash on the pass side.

No, it was orginally a 3.1 v-6. I cant find no buffer box anywhere under the dash. There is a little yellow box, but it doesnt look anything like that nor has that many wires running to it. Very confusing. I just need to know what i need and how to wire it up now.

I believe it is 2 wires from the VSS in the tranny to the box and one wire to the speedo. the other wires went to the ECM.
There was a thread the other day that showed which wires are needed., but I don't remember the thread.
Box was in Firebirds from 86-89, at least in the Trans Am and Formula, not sure about the V6 cars.
I think 90-92 Camaros with the TBI motor also have the box.

IF your car had the same ecm as the '90+ tpi cars then the buffer was built into the ecm. Since you don't your ecm any more than you will probably need the yellow buffer box.
