Please Help!!!! >fuel Pump
I need to replace the fuel pump ASAP. I saw a pic a while back where someone cut a whole in the hatch area to get to the fuel pump easily and welded it back in. Can someone please post that pic if they have it. Any help will be very greatly appreciated.

I dont know where the pic is, but someone cut an access hole in my 89 RS. I would be very, very careful if you cut a hole. The fuel tank and sending unit lines are only about half an inch below the sheet metal. Whoever cut in my car might have also cut thru the sending unit lines, because they had all been spliced back together with rubber hose and clamps.

Where you cut it, is no big deal. ain't gonna hurt anything. Unless you drill into the tank. Myself I welded every seam in my car and never thought that there was a gas tank inches away.
I would also cut my floor rather then just about remove the rear end to get at the tank, then the removal and install work is a pain if it has some gas in it still, even on a easier accessed car.
It would be better to do it slow and right. Ive taken the one in my wagon out the right way 4-5 times in a day but I do not wanna do it to my 3rd gen. Few min with the air chisel and another 20 Min's and the pump is done.
Do it clean and make a nifty access cover.
I have the pics on my computer somewhere. ill find em.

I've done this before.
DON'T cut the floorpan 'tilll you remove the tank!!!(or you'll be replacing the tank, as well!)
Once you remove the tank you can cut an access hole about middleways and forward on the hump. A small tube cutter, short pieces of fuel line and clamps will prevent you from having to go through this nightmare again.
Form a piece of sheet metal over the hole and fasten it down using tar tape and SHORT metal screws! Next time you need to replace the pump, just pull up the carpet in the rear!
