Sticky door locks...

This actually applies to 2 identical Camaros I have, a 90 and a 92. Both have car alarms and both have sticky locks, to where if you "lock" the car with the remote, the doors don't lock, but attempt to. If I manually lock them, then "unlock" with the remote, they will unlock.

I'm guessing it just means my lock actuators are weak or something. Is there a way I can service them, or can I replace them? I'm guessing this has happened numerous times before, so what do you guys do?

Thanks.

I forgot to mention, this applies in the same way as with using the door lock buttons inside the car, because, obviously, all the remote does is actuate those the same way as if I had physically pushed them inside the car.

No, what it usually means is that the rod that goes to the little locking lever below the inside door handle is bent a hair where it goes through a retainer that holds it to the door panel so it won't rattle. It's probably also dirty and needs cleaning and lubing.

But on all four doors (both cars)? Does that happen often? I'd feel better replacing the actuators too....do they still sell them?

Thanks for the help.

Yes. Take the door panel off and hose the rods by the lock and actuator down with WD40. Manually work the lock back and forth. Spray them down again with WD40 and reattach the door panel once the power lock starts working correctly again. Make sure your window is up so WD40 doesnt get on that!

You can get the whole setup from some boneyards for as little as $10.00 each if you feel you absolutely need to change them. Also Justins86bird is right about cleaning them with wd40 and working the locks a few times. I would also put some spray lithium grease on the actuator linkage after cleaning it with electrical contact cleaner and wiping it down.

Sweet, thanks guys.

As for looking in the boneyards, I don't think buying another old actuator would help the problem for long, if at all. Thanks anyways, though. I'll start with the given suggestions.
