Need wiring diagram
I need the wiring diagram for a '87 Trans am
The main carb ECM part, if anybody has a shop manual and can make a copy that would be great.( might be a couple of pages)
I'm changing a carb set up to TPI. A copy of the I/P 15 pin connector too, would help.
TIA,

Thanks for the tip...but '87 Trans Am was a completely different animal.
I has an electric fuel pump in the tank.
A different VSS buffer etc.
Oh, and an electronic cluster in the dash.

Same thing.. the diagrams cover all the engines from 1982-1992, but you can also follow one of the links in the Wiring Diagrams section from the main page...
You have to know the eighth digit of your VIN number and the one from the donor car to get the proper diagramming.

Like I was saying....'87 Trans Am "H" Vin code w/ carb is a different animal. Unique, all by it's self.

Hey look. I just found it.. 305 VIN H with carb.

http://92b4crs.tripod.com/86wiring/dia-pics/24-3.jpg for both carb diagrams (very little here)
These are taken from the above link from the tech articles page in the CCC VIN H section and from the Tuned Port Injection VIN 8 section. These are not direct links, you have to type them into the address bar manually or follow the links through.

Thanks for the help but.......they still don't show an electric fuel pump or an electrical speedo. It was only on a '87.
I think I have worked it out by probing and back tracing the wires.
The craziest part was when I found the backup light wires in with the computer harness.

Was your car reverted to carb for some strange reason? I do not believe that an electric fuel pump was incorporated into the carbed engines due to the low fuel pressure required for carbs (less than 10 PSI usually, which is less than for TBI). If you have one, it's a strange deal you have there. Everything, including the fuel pump circuits, should be in the VIN 8 section, since that one is for a TPI engine.
And as for the backup light wires being in the ECM harness, that is not so strange, unless the prev owner just kept the wiring in the stock places from an auto trans, in which case, the P/NSS would have all of those wires in it's harness, which runs through that loom for the starter.
Maybe a repair manual would help? I tried to find a less confusing diagram, but they weren't right...

This was a stock setup, the only one that came that way is the '87. Trust me, there is nothing similar to a TPI or injection system. It had to do with something about vapor lock that was occuring with that model of car.
As far as the harness goes, the carb harness is a stand alone unit and does not have any other engine functions incorporated in it. So that makes the backup lights with it really strange, to say nothing of confusing.

The most I can say is to look around for a GM/Helms manual. I don't have one and never have seen one, so I personally wouldn't know about them, but if they are like the rest of those that are on the market, they will have factory-correct wiring diagrams inside. Contact either your dealer, or, I believe, TomP has one of those higly prized (and expensive) repair manuals...
