Another starting problem
Heres the deal, I have a newly purchased 89 tbi camaro the car has been having a problem starting. The problem started a couple days ago I tried starting the car it turns but no start, I couldn't stick around to mess with it cause I had to go to work. when I came home I tried it again and it started fine on the first turn. I shut it off and tried to start it again to see what would happen and again it did the same thing; it cranks but wouldn't start. I think it might have something to do with this single orange wire that hangs from the steering column. The orange wire has two white wires inside it, further down the wire is a (badly soldered) resistor that odly enough has the same resistance and the chip on my key 1.4 ohms. Could this be VATs related and possibly the cause of my starting problem? Any input would be appreciated

Yep, that is where someone tried to bypass the VATS in your car. Is this resistor soldered into the two white wires or into a connector with a purple/yellow wire and a black/white wire by any chance?
Yep ,the orange wire coming from the steering column has two White wires within it, one of them has the 1.4 ohm resistor soldered to it. Hanging just below the two white wires is a purple/white wire and a white/black wire, I guess they were some-how connected to the resistor at one point in time but they are just hangin there now.

Are there connectors on the ends of the wires. The two white wires should have a male connector that would plug into the female connector on the purple/yellow & black/white wires.

Okay Chevcd2002,
Here is what you can do for the moment, take those wires and connect them by twisting the ends together and cover with electrical tape. Try starting the car, if it starts you are good to go with that temporary fix. For a permanent fix, I would go to a junkyard and find those connectors on an old car and cut them off with enough wire to splice them into your existing wires.
