hatch release

Hi everyone-
I would like to fix my hatch release button, how would i go about doing this.

It doesn't release it. my struts no longer work, but i've tried having people pull up while i release and no go. If its up you can see moving parts and whatnot when i press it though...

If you can see the parts moving when you press the hatch release button, it isn't the problem. I would start by getting some new hatch struts. Then clean and lubricate the hatch release assembly and cable.
