Needing an opinion, quick!

1988 GTA (350 TPI)

It's been running fine, with just a few oddities such as not idling smooth and not as good on the MPG as it used to. So, I took it in for a check-up. I'm told the computer and PROM are bad. The problem is that I was going to take it on a 2000 mile road trip starting tomorrow morning. The only PROM in the country (I'm told) is in Michigan and, while we can get it overnight, puts a big hole in my driving schedule.

So, the question is this: would you drive it as-is?

For all I know, it's been that way for a year and I haven't had any real issues with it. Are any serios issues likely to come up if I put a few more miles on it as-is?

Thanks for the advice!

I would get a second opinion if it is running that good..do you have a "check engine" light on?

The SES light comes on once in a while but usually clears itself after a while and always clears itself if I shut it off and restart it. The techs said that the computer was just hurling many random codes that had no correlation to anything happening on the car. So, they deduced that the computer was at fault.

Just talked to the tech... They checked all the power and ground points. I've used these guys for years and they've never done me wrong before. Everything points to a bad computer/PROM hurling multiple error codes.

So, should I rent the Grand Am that I have on standby or risk the 'bird?
