ignition module / coil

Will a faulty ignition module prevent a coil from firing?

I wasn't aware of that. Apparently this rebuilt distributor I bought came with a bad module in it. The coil tests out fine and the pickup coil is reading what it's supposed to.
Oh well, another $25 in the bucket...
