PASS-Key bypass

Can anyone tell me how to bypass the PASS-Key (key w/the chip) ignition on a 91RS? My key goes out after about 6-8months. This causes major headaces. Any info would be great. Thanks

Do what?

Try doing a search for VATS or Pass-Key on this board. You will get tons of results.

Welcome aboard.

Bypass

If it's the key with the black chip in it it's very easy to bypass. first u have to mesure the resistance in your key..use a mulitmeter to do this and put a lead on each side of the chip. There are only 15 possible resistances that gm used. Then u need a resistor or couple of resistors to make up the specific resistance that your key reads. Directed electronics makes a set of resistors called the VATPACK...which has all the resistances u would need. u could prolly get them from a install shop. After that coming from your key cylinder in the ignition harness u should see two thin gauge wires in a yellow loom...it goes from the key cylinder to the BCM. There wil be a black harness somewhere in the middle...disconnect that and the side of the harness that goes towards the bcm u are gonna put the resistor inbetween. u can take it and loop it into both sides of the connector where the pins fron the harness on the keyside u disconnected would plug into. after this is done u no longer have to worry about vats and u can easily go to n e place that makes keys and spend a dollar for keys now instead of getting them from GM. hope this helps and i didin't confuse n e one
