engine swap: which gauge senders to keep and where are they?
storyline:
car was an electronic carbed 305. the computer controlled carb & distributor were removed from under the hood about a year ago, leaving behind a mess of wires.
the new motor going in is a 350. emissions here are not a major concern, as the test can be easily passed with a cat and de-tuning the carb. i plan to remove the ECM and the associated harness components and clean up my engine bay, as i understand it its relatively easy to unplug and remove. i intend to keep the AC.
now then my question:
what gauge senders do i need to put on the new engine and where are they located?
*the old engine had two different sensors T-ed off the oil sender port behind the intake
*there were a few different senders on the water filler neck.
*theres a switch or sender of some kind on the top of the water pump where the hose runs to the heater core.
*there are a few other misc senders located on the sides of the heads and block.
i guess i'm just looking to identify my oil pressure sender and my water temp sender for my gauge cluster. which ones are they? and are there any other components that i should keep?
i'm also under the impression that the ECM controlled the fan through a seperate temp sender than the cockpit gauge. just to confirm i'll have to get an aftermarket fan switch to control the fan now?

Hey Pete
Your coolant temp sending unit should be in the driver side head.
The oil pressure unit will be the one which had a tan wire hooked to it, near the rear of the intake.
There may be a switch in the passenger side head for the fan.
The things on the water neck are vaccuum switches for the EGR and stuff.

thanks pete.
once i actually started going through the wiring it wasnt as confusing as i thought it would be. the computer harness was pretty easy to take out, and everything else matched up.

Cool deal! The only wires you may need to keep through the passenger side would be those going to the reverse light switch on the transmission.
