MSD Coil mounting ????
Is it ok to mount a coil sideways? I'm cleaning up my engine bay and found a nice place to mount my coil sideways right above my heater box, will it be ok to mount it like that on its side?? If it is then i will do it. TIA
Blaster3's got an extended coil tower, as it states in any high performance mail order catalog to prevent arching of voltage between terminals and center of coil. Thus making it easier to mount at an angle, sideways,or vertically.
Honestly, I'd mount the Blaster2 vertically,or go w/ a Blaster3
(it's also a bit cheaper)
My setup:
MSD Probillet distributor
MSD 6AL ignition box
MSD Blaster3 coil
Accel 8.8 Racing wires

i know you can mount it sideways like that..
i was once told by a older car guy that you should never mount a coil upside down, because all of the oil will leak out.
i have no idea if this is true anymore, or if it applies at all to our cars, but i know mounting that coil sideways is ok... thats how its mounted in my spitfire.

According to the MSD webpage, the Blaster 2 needs to be verticle due to the oil filled canister and the lubication of the parts internal.
"Do not mount this coil horizontally or upside down. The oil will not sufficiently cover the windings for cooling purposes and the coil may overheat."
Just bought one, so I looked it up.
