Red wire with pin hanging by starter and bottom plugs
Any idea what it is? has a little pin poking up
its next to the starter, it might be red i cant remember

There are 2 sensors on that side of the motor on my 91, the knock sensor, which is down in the lower block area, and a switch for the second electric fan which is up between the #6 and the #8 spark plugs in the head. My fan switch has a pin type connector similar to what I think you're describing. I'd check for these sensors and that there is a wire going into them. Does the car start? If so, it shouldn't be a starter wire so I would check for these sensor(s). If you don't have electric fans you probably won't have the fan switch in the head.
