voltage guage jumping around, charging interemittantly
Last night I noticed my volt gauge was bouncing around. The car didnt seem to charge very well. This morning the car didnt seem to be charging at all so I figured alternator was bad. Well, i was on the way to the store when i made a hard stop, it started charging again. When the car is running and when the car is off the metal center on the back of the alternator magnetic, the terminal is slightly magnatic. While driving today it was charging but it seemed not very well, then it stopped charging again, i'm low enough to the point where the radio is cutting out. When I hit bumps the needle bounces all over. I'm pretty sure its a loose connection somewhere, but i dont know where.
Where should I start?
I need to know asap, I was planning on going home from college tomarrow, its a 3 hour drive.
Thanks,
Matt

I'm thinking a loose connection on the starter, cause thats the only thing I have touched recently in the starting/charging system besides the ignition switch. Its a mini-hitachi starter. No starting problems though so I dont know.
Anyone have ideas???
