O2 sensor placement
i bought headers for my car, and of course they didnt have holes for an sensor. i wondering if i could put the O2 sensor further down the exhaust, or does it have to be in the collector? i was thinking of putting it on my downpipe, in a place so i didnt have to unbolt everything. if it is possible to move it down the exhaust, i can just extend the sensor wire right?

You want it as close to the engine as possible. They need heat to operate correctly. You can try putting it downstream but you will probably need to switch to a heated o2.

what about at the end of the collector? will that work? they are headman headers, not block huggers but not full length.

You'll probably still need to switch over to a heated sensor. Wiring them in is easy (I had to do it with my SLP Tri-Ys in my 91 Formula as well as the Hooker SuperComps on my old Suburban), just take the two wires that are the same color and tie one to ground and the other to a keyed power wire. Then take the sinlge wire color and splice it into your existing sensor wire. Simple!
I got a little fancier and picked up a couple of harness connectors at Pep Boys and did mine without messing up the car's original connectors or harness, but that isn't necessary. I'm just a little **** sometimes about making things look right, plus I can change sensors since I used a factory type plug if I ever need to.

4 Wire O2 Sensor
When you switched to a 4 wire O2 Sensor, did you just ask for one at your local parts store? Or do you know a specific vehicle type to ask for that O2 sensor from? Also... did you or have you had any problems from running the heater element in that sensor constantly off of a 12V ignition? I could be wrong but I understand that in 4 wire O2 sensor vehicles, the heater element only runs intermittently. One last bit of heresay.... I was told at the local performance store to avoid Bosch O2 Sensors and to stick with AC Delco, it apparently works alot better and longer. Thanks to any replies!
