Ignition and wiring probs... please help

Hey everyone..

Stored my 'bird at my g/f's mom's place for the winter, and had her start it up every once in a while.. she said it always fired up just fine... well, when I went over there in April to take it for a spin, nothing... Now I bought this from a guy that did a major hack job to the poor thing... been fixing little things along the way. Anyway, he messed with the wiring harness under the steering wheel and had to "jump start" the car with another wire tagging bewteen the power and the crank fuses... well, I want to go through and fix that problem so I can use the key to start the car.. but first I need to know whats wrong.

I had the starter tested, and they put power to it and it fired up just fine he said. SO I put that back in and cleaned up the contacts, still nothing, no clicks, nothing. So I ask how many wires are really connected between the key and the starter, and where are they? I have a small understanding of the uses of a DMM to help... but still. I have power cause the windows, radio and lights work. Thinking about replacing the battery cables(ince the ends were rather green) and then if needed the ignition switch... any other suggestions? Thanks.
