My lamp pop ups quit.....first they would go up sometimes, now they wont go up at all.

I can crank them up with the manual ***** and they will close with the motors via the OFF swich but they wont bring them back up.

Thanks,

Don

Hey Don, it sounds like the gears are probably wornout. Contact TDS(above sponsor) to order a repair kit for your gears. Be sure you mention what year your TA is.

The kit is about $20, it repairs both motor assemblies, and it's got easy to follow instructions. It'll take you a couple of hours, but the lights will be like new when you're done, and you'll have learned more than you ever wanted to know about your headlights!!!

Your headlight motors are good. If they weren't, the lights wouldn't close, which they do. And the relays are PROBABLY good too. If they weren't, the motors wouldn't get the power to close the lights, which they are . So...

When you turn on the lights, do you hear running sounds, like the lights want to go up, but they just can't? That's your motors running. But with broken gears inside, the motors can't raise the lights.

If you're not hearing any motor sound at all when you turn them on, totally dead, then it's probably relays or the relay connectors/connections--because we already know the motors work. So check the connections at each of the three relays(one on each inner fender by the coolant tank and windshield washer tank, and the third should be near the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side).

I hope that helps you out.

You might also have a problem with either the end limit switches or the isolation realy for the headlamp motors. Since both failed simultaneously, I'd suspect the relay first. Grab your voltmeter.

It was the center relay located in front of the TPI aircleaner and attached to the radiator bulkhead

Thanks to all for your input
