oil pressure gague dancing for me

can anyone tell me what might be causing me oil pressure gague to start moving back and fourth rapidly, it still works for the most part but every now and then it starts moving rapidly back and fourth and i have no idea what is causing this

Gauge failure perhaps. Hard to tell without knowing more.

An easy way to tell is to get one of those inexpensive three-gauge clusters from an auto parts store and hook it up. They come with oil pressure, coolant temp and battery gauges.

Most likely its the sending unit going bad. Possibility of the wire that goes to it as well. It's rarely the gauge itself that goes bad though.

I'll vote for a funky sending unit, but check the wire connector first. Unplug it and spray the metal contact with WD-40 to remove any corrosion inside the connector.
