Help

HEY i have a real big problem. MY car is a 1992 firebird tpi and it will do nothing when i turn the key. I have put a new starter in it. I have no juice from the wire off the starter into the firewall"igntion". So do yall think its a igtion switch relay, or what else could it be. Where on the steering colum would the igtion switch relay be? Also what are the big sliver fuses for. There are two of them.they are in the fuse box. We can cross the starter and the car will start. I'm lost so any help would really help. Thanks alot

It sounds like you need to replace some fusible links down at the starter solenoid and check your connections there. Make sure the purple wire with the small terminal lug is on the small post on the solenoid marked "S".

If your turn signals still work, and your wipers and radio works, you have a problem with the VATS.

Vats has nothing to do with the power on the wire from the starter solenoid to the firewall. VATS starts with the yellow wire and pink wire(?) coming off the ignition switch going to the starter enable relay. There should be two red wires at the ignition switch with power from the starter solenoid. That would be one red wire at pin "A4" at the firewall connector that splits into two wires at the ignition switch. The purple wire on the solenoid goes to the Park/Neutral switch for an automatic and the clutch start switch on a manual.

You're right...I mis-read the problem; I thought he had no power getting to the starter from the purple wire.
But if the car will run by jumping the starter, then the fusible link must be good, as the coil runs off the switched IGN power, doesn't it?

You are correct that the ignition coil gets power from the switched ignition on the pink wire at the ignition switch. If he jumpers the starter with the key in the on position, he is bypassing the fusible link to the ignition switch. If the VATS works, the car will start. Here is a trouble shooting chart for him to check his problem.
