Will not start
After reading through some of the posts, it appears trickster is very well educated on these cars, so my friend I hope you can help. I have an '89 Firebird that I am converting from a 305 TBI to a 350 TPI. I have a new Painless Harness, a used computer from a TA, and all the necessary relays. When I first hooked up the battery and turned the key, I kept blowing the 10amp gauge fuse. I put in a 20amp fuse instead of the 10 and when I turned the key it did not blow. Short term fix I know. The fuel pump relay is coming on when the key is turned on, but I am not getting any fuel from the fuel pump, and yes there is gas in the tank and yes I changed the fuel pump. Worst of all though, the motor will not turn. I have checked all connections and wiring, all seems correct. I have thought about the VATS not working, but it worked when I took the car down, and I did nothing with the steering column. The seat belt light, volt, and oil pressure function as they should, and I have the dome light working, it simply will not start. Another interesting piece is that I have no power to the crank fuse when the key is in the crank position. I have power to all other fuses, the radio even works. I did change the shifter, safety neutral, and back up light switches. Any suggestions? I am at a loss, and the wife is begging to drive the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Wayne

A couple of idea's actually. The fuel pump priming and no fuel could possibly be a restriction in the fuel line like a clogged filter or filter installed backwards (yes that can and does happen). No power to crank when key is turned. When you replaced the Park/neutral switch, did you adjust it or just install it. If it is not not adjusted you will not get any power to the starter solenoid from the igniton switch. Check to make sure that the purple wire is on the post marked "S" on the starter solenoid. Hope this helps you at least get started. BTW, welcome to the board.
