ECM problems
here is some info so you have an idea of what we are messing with. About 8 Months ago my uncle did a engine swap for me, except he has no idea when it comes to wiring. The car is an 83 Trans Am, the donor engine was a 350 TPI, we have the fuel pump installed and we have fuel and spark just no injection. We think it is computer related. It looks like a tornado was under my hood and any help would be appreciated, I want to try and get her up and running today if at all possible. If i left anything out just yell, I have the car in my lot and can reply quickly.

was hoping to get a reply from you Trickster, its an honor to meet and talk to you. I was on the boards just browsing and you seem to be the man i need to speak with. It was originally a 305 carbed, we just bought the book and my friend is helping me out, we got it to run for like 2 seconds and he is almost positive it is just the comp and something not talking.

Did you get the GM service manual or the haynes- chilton manual. If you have everything wired up correctly, you probably just need to get a chip burned for it or you might be able to get by with a 305 TPI chip from a 85 model. Let me know how it turns out.

we got the chilton one. I might even be able to get a chip, i know a boneyard around here has some 305 tpis laying around, but i don't think they have ECM's

If the ECM isn't in the car, a lot of boneyards pull them and keep them inside their storage areas. Get the part number for the chip from the dealership and go searching the boneyards. Make sure you get a chip that will fit in your original computer.

yes it does, and it connects to the underdash, but im thinking the signlas are different or not going were they need to, we got some ticking, Nick believes its the injectors, and it ran for about 6-7 seconds this time

Nevermind, we found out what was wrong, we just have to fabricate some wires, hook up the throttle cable, toss some an anti-freeze in and buy some gas, it will be running tomorrow, the exhaust is open right after the cat so it sounds real mean. There might be some misc wires, but im positive we can find it out.
