Knock Sensor

Hey guys, I got a somewhat odd question, and was hopeing that anyone who knows how to work on them can help.

I want to know if its possible to get rid of my knock sensor, and still have my car run right. You see, I want gear drive really bad, but all of them say that I cant run it because the knock sensor would inturrpret the whine as knock and constantly retard my engine. So I was wondering what I would have to do to either get rid of it, or de-tune the f@#k out of it to get gear drive to work. Thanks, I hope one of you can help.

Ben

Some people have had success in getting quiet gear drives to work with the knock sensor.

Why do you want a gear drive so bad anyway?

Well, for one thing, you get that awesom whine, It sounds awesome, and I really dont want to deal with a chain anymore. My friend just put gear drive on his 71' Camaro last week and its sounds awesome. I guess more than anything I like the noise.

Wait a while and see how long the novelty lasts.

I imagine the bin can be modified to reduce the amount of spark retard upon knock detection and/or increase the number of knock counts required to initiate spark retard.

In the event either or both of those options are available and workable, it is a step backwards in the name of coolness.

Why is it a step backwards?

You'd be giving up computerized timing optimization and knock control, just to "sound cool".
