V6 to V8 swap, question about alternater

I have the new motor in ( Ramjet 350) and the engine
accessories on. I noticed that the alternater has a 4 pin
regulator on the back of it. This is from the GM peformance
serpentine belt system, and is actually just like the 91-92
F body belt system. I need to know why there are 4 pins,
when there are only 2 wires that are there on my existing
alt. connector? The electrical diagram in the GM service
manual for the charging system only shows 2 wires going
to the alternater/generator, either V6 OR V8. Both wire up
almost identical. So, are the other 2 pins not used? There
is also wire that connects to the back of the alt. on the
stud right?

The belt system came with a 4 wire connector. But, why?
I even checked with a GM dealer and aftermarket places,
all carry a 4 pin alt. for the 5.7L. Does anyone actually
have a 4 wire connector going to the alt.? I have seen
pics around here with 5.0L/5.7L using only 2 wires going
to the alt. So, the other 2 are just not used? Any help
appreciated, thanks!

P.S. PLEASE post pics of the alt. and wiring if you can. Thanks!

If you still have your stock wiring intact for the alt. just use it over, I just checked all 3 of my cars and they only use 2 wires. Hope this helps, I can scan a wiring diagram for you tomarrow night from a 88 transam factory service manual if you want. Let me know.

I kept the original stock wiring intact for everything but
the old ECM from the old motor. So the alt. wiring is still
all there. I checked my GM service manual for 1991 Camaro
and both the V6 and the V8 wire 99% the same. But I also
need to know if your V8 cars have 4 pins in the alt.
Disconnect the alt. connector and check to see if there
are 4 pins in the voltage regualtor. If there are, then I have
the right alt. for my car and the other pins are not used.
Thanks for your help! Please get back to me as soon as you
can. I appreciate your help.

P.S. You can scan and send the diagram here if you'd like.
The more info I have the better. Thanks.

Ok, so only 2 pins are used, the others are not. Thanks
for clearing that up for me. I don't need a new alt. or need
to modify my wiring. I wonder why they made it a 4 pin
when only 2 pins are used?

All GM gens have 4 pins at the plug which is actually part of the regulator IC. It is used for different applications. Thirdgens usually only use 2 of the four connections, one for field and one for the sense or turn on wire. Go to www.alternatorparts.com the have an online service manual with a diagram.
