SES light and emissions ?
SES light and emissions ?
Hello All:
When my friend took his 1982 Trans-Am for Emissions, he did not have his SES light installed because he has a custom dash.
The car would not pass emissions, and he was made to take his car to a GM "computer expert." This person told him that the ECM would not "talk" to him, and recommended based on his experience that my friend go home an re-connect the SES light. This expert claimed that after the SES light was re-connected the computer started working right and passed emissions.
Does anyone know if the SES light needs to be installed for proper computer operation ?
Grrrr.... (I HATE issues like this, I spent half the day just on this issue...)

The ses light has nothing to do with the operation of the computer. Emissions shouldnt change just because the light is connected or disconnected. The fact that the scan tool wasnt comunicating indicates a problems thou. Either the aldl wiring is messed up or there is a problem with the ecm.
