Key Switch Question: Part Deux
Hey gang. I hate cross posting but it seems like this might be the better forum:
Convertible Forum Topic on Key Switch
Basically another member and myself are having problems with the lock on the column. We can't go backward on the key to run the accessories. Is this a *feature* unique to convertibles or a problem?
Curious,

sounds like an issue to me,
lol
check the column lock rod and make sure its not out of adjustment down up under there, you probably will need someone to run the key switcxh for you while you flashlight and screwdriver around with the rod, but be careful that you dont bend it or slip it out of adjustment
or maybe the key cylinder is just plain worn out, is it original AFAYK ?
i vote for key switch wear over rod adjustment, but you can never know for sure,
or just swap column out for another, heck with it, they are dime a dozen
good luck

Excellent. Yeah, I vote for old and worn out. I do think the switch and key are the original. Heck, the durn car's odometer is nearing 175K.
Thanks for the scoop.

A lot of GM cars do that.
I find that most of the time, if you move the tilt wheel up or down a couple of notches, it will work again. And sometimes the accessories will even stay on if you move the tilt back to where it was.
Chances are, the ignition switch is probably out of adjustment.
Also, you likely know this, but you do have to push and hold the key in before you can turn it backward.

When you try to turn the key for accessories, are you pushing in on the lock cylinder as you turn the key or are you just putting the key in and trying to turn the key to accessories?

(delayed response)
I'm pushing in the cylinder to try and get accessories. It still doesn't work like any of the 6 previous GM cars I've owned.
