My Rear End Hurts....

Mr. Goodwrench just told me that $300 per door should get my power windows working again... somehow, im thinking that $300 per side isnt exactly in my price range... does anyone know of any good shop chains to take my car to and get the windows done? i read the tutorial on how to do it yourself, and i am not that confident in my mechanic skills to go rip apart my whole door just yet... n e input is appreciated.. thx!

Well I did my first 3rd Gen Camaro window motor replacement at the tender age of 18. I've done quite a few since then (for some reason none of my friends like to tackle it). If you are unsure as to your mechanical ability you may want to bite the bullet and pay. Anyway back on topic 300.00 per side isn't too bad, it isn't too great either but still figure that most shops avarage 65.00 to 90.00 per hour in labor these days (at elast they do in california) and retail price on dealer parts, it isn't too bad. I'm not to sure you'll find any ripping deals but if any are to be had than I would suggest contacting any and all auto glass shops in your area. Since that is all they do, usually a better deal can be had. Just watch out for the guys that don't mind bending the s**t out of your door to get thier fat hands in there.

i went on gmpartsdirect.com and got the window motors down to $85 a piece... so, if i buy those and have the dealer put them in, it should cost me a lot less...

don't count on it. 85% of the bill is labor, parts are cheap

really... hmmm.. the quote the dealership gave me was $112 for labor and $164 for the motor... X 2 for both doors... but if i go with the pep boys motors, are they as reliable and as NEW as the ones i would get from gmpartsdirect.com ? i have already decided that Im not going to do it myself.... and i also decided that $300 per door is too steep... unless i can get it down to about $200 per door, my windows stay broken..

I seriously doubt GM would do the job if you supplied the parts. They say the motors are $164 each, cost them MAYBE $50, so you'd be cutting into their profit by suppling parts.

Do like Max_Maro92 says and get a glass company to do it. Mine was barely over $100 dollars for parts and labor.
