180 Amp CS130 Alternators...?

Hey guys, I have been having trouble with my alternator off and on, and I wanted to replace it with a High Amp alternator. I found this one on eBay, but I was wondering what you guys thought of it.

180 Amp CS130 Alternator

I also found one on 4alterstart that states it is also available in a 180 amp version, here's a direct link.

The alterstart one looks like it comes with a warranty, but I just emailed them asking a price on it... If it's reasonable with a warranty, do you guys think it's worth it?

What other options do I have to get a higher amp alternator. I want my my volts to stay up at idle (currently at idle i'm dropping way down with headlights and fan on). Anything that is fairly cheap with a warranty and will fit in stock location without modifications??

First, a higher amp unit will generally have LESS idle output. You are better sticking with the stock 100 amp unit and if Y want idle volts use an underdrive pulley. The CS 130 units will simply not provide high current at low rpm. I did a lot of work trying to accomplish what Y mention, low voltage with the A/C and fans on. My tach would bounce with the turn signals. The only real solution is to convert to a CS 130D, the one that comes on current GM cars. It has a different charging curve. I posted an article here about it. Another option is the CS 144, but they are getting hard to find and are pricey.

So where do I get one of these Over Drive Pulleys for my Alternator, I have heard them mentioned elsewhere, but I can't find part numbers or much more information about them... Does anyone have a part number or anything?

I am thinking my alternator is alright and my battery is to blame for all of this, but I'm not sure yet, I would like an overdrive pulley so I can have a little more voltage at idle, cause right now, this sucks.

Try www.alternatorparts.com They have them as well as many other things for upgrade and repair. Your battery is always the main source of power so a good one is important. An alt only maintains the battery and usually to about only 75-80% of capacity.

The alternator in most of our cars (105amp) only puts out around 30-40 amps at idle and draws power directly from the battery at idle. If you driving on a rainy night with the wipers, AC, lights, fans, and stereo on together you'll find out just how strong it is at stoplights! Also, in 15 years driving my Camaro I've noticed the cruise control stops working whenever I need a new battery... I cannot explain why!!?! From what you've described you need a new battery. Also, if you get a new alternator remember that when hooking up a new internally regulated alternator (every Delco alternator since 1971) make sure your battery is 100% charged to at least 12.6 volts. Otherwise the alternator will overheat and die in short time...
