need help with a goodwrench security system
ok i know this is not a third gen. but i was hoping someone could help because this site has been very helpful so far with my TA. ok so here goes my sister just bought me a 1988 chevy truck the title says GMT-400 it has a V8 305 TBI engine it says scottsdale 1500 on the side well this is what i want to know it has a GM goodwrench security system on it that every time i start the thing i have to turn the key on push a button under the hood once and then step on a switch under the floor mat and hold it then try and start the car and if it fails to start (which my sister only payed $250 dollars for so it often doesnt start) i have to turn the key off and do it again i have removed the pannels under the stering wheel and found the the GM goodwrench security system box and the wires to all the switchs (there is also a toggle switch the guy told my sister never to touch or the truck would never start again) does any one know how to remove all of this so the truck will be easier to start it is just a winter truck so i dont have to drive my TA
thanks

You may want to direct this question to the guys over at Fullsize Chevy. They were instrumental in helping me build and maintain my '90 4x4 up until I wrecked it. They should have no problem deciphering your problems, and their site is very similar to this one, although they appear to be in the middle of remodeling the whole thing. Good luck.

There should be a fat yellow wire snaking down the steering column that they cut in half and soldered a wire to each side. That will be the starter wire. Cut off the wires they added, and solder the yellow wire back together. Then basically just cut off all the other alarm wires and tape up the factory wires good. Then remove the brain, siren, pin switches, and you're good.
IIRC, you have 4 wire door locks, you those wires may be cut in half as well. If thats the case just do like you did with the starter wire. If you have this setup, the installer probably tapped in to these above the drivers side speaker in the dash. Could also have possibly went into the door boot as well, but it's not likely.
While you are interfacing with the fat wires on the column, you may want to disconnect the battery. If you short out any of those, it will pop the fusable links by the starter.
It's really not a difficult process, you could probably have it done in an hour or two.
Good luck
