Well, I just wired in a painless harness and it hooks to the ecm. ECM (computer), if you have a tbi or a tpi, it controls your fuel and air mixture, torque convertor, vss, egr , throtle, ignition, o2 sensor, oil sensor, temp. sensor and emissions can be attached. I may not have everything down but thats the most part. If you have a carburator
vs fuel injection, the Ecm plays no part at all. It mainly controls engine funtions if I am not mistaken..

ECM controls fuel mixture, timing, idle speed. Car will run without it but sure drink some gas. Good system when right, I'd have left it alone.

You may as well get an aftermarket carb & a old style vacuum advance HEI distributor now. The ECM used to control your timing advance. The Q-jet, w/o ECM IIRC (may be thinking of Ferd's though), will default to pig-rich idle mixture and run considerably rich through the rest of the rpm band.

If you have the ccc-qjet (some canadian models did not) the comp controls primary fuel/air, ignition advance and torque converter lockup. If you unplugged it and didn't notice a difference, it must not have been operating properly (what was your mileage?).
On the vacuum lines, hope you didn't disconnect the pcv (to valve cover) and there's no reason to disconnect the evap canister or the egr valve. The EFE (vac valve in pass side exhaust-if stock) can also help with cold weather warm up.
Do a search here for good info. You can also check out montecarloss.com for some good stuff on the ccc-qjet in their tech section. Find out what you've got, learn how it works, then no worries.
