frequency doublers?

by anychance, does anyone here know of a IC or circuit i can use as a frequency doubler?

im trying to get one to convert the tach signal of a LS1 (2 pulses per rev, like a 4 cyl...) to work with V8 tachs ( 4 pulses per rev)

with a bottom reading of about 500 and a redline of 9k thats a input operating range of .06 - 1.08mhz and double that on the output.
input voltage is in the 3v-6v range, output the same.

i havent had any luck looking for ICs online i could use, and all the places i found except digikey only sell to companys in bulk.

and please dont suggest i just buy one of the prepackaged "tach converters" or somthing similar.. i know they're out there, but id rather make one, and if it works, make a couple more so we can all have CHEAP ones instead of paying $40-$100 for nothing more then a simple circuit.

An XOR gate, a resistor and a capacitor:

Code:
                       --------
in -----+--------------| |
        | | XOR |-------out
        +-/\/\/\/--+---| |
                   | --------
                   |
                 -----
                 -----
                   |
                  gnd
At 9K RPM the frequency will be 600 Hz. At 500 RPM the frequency will be 33.3 Hz. This is for a V8 and a tach pulse per plug firing.

Haven't the foggiest idea how this relates to DIY PROM. . . figure that the electronics board may be best.

RBob.

what values would i need for the components?
the single im getting is a pure 5v square wave 2 pulses per rev, generated by the PCM.

RBob.
simple, the DIY prom guys deal with electronic components and get INTO stuff.. look at the prom emulators, test benches, ect.

the electronics board is "how do i wire up my headlights?". the people who i want to see this thread, arnt in there.

If you find a chip you like, call up the manufacturer or one of their vendors, give them a company name, and ask them for a "sample".
