hatch problem

i have an 89 firebird and the rear hatch gizmo will not pull it down anymore. It used to work but now it does not do anything. when i press the button to open it the brake light indicator in the gauges lights up. any answers will be helpful.

thanks

hey mine was originally not working..first i would suggest checking the to se if the wiring from the switch is all conected. Then take off the hatch gizmo thing cover and see if everything is connected. Then i would go into the fuse thing under the steering column and make sure its all plkuged into LID... if ur lights inside r not working then u will have a problem with the hatch as well. If all that fails ur motor might be broken. As i said mine was originally not working and i have an 86 RS, then i got it all coneected and it worked. then since the motor was so old and i had no shocks on my hatch at the time the motor broke trying to lift it...lol...**** happens huh. just play with all the possibilities besides if it dont work its not that big of a deal just do it manually to get stuff out the back.
