Delay Wipers

how does the wiper switch vary the delay between pulses? Is it a variable resistor? I found some of Trickster's diagrams through the search, and that's what it looks like to me, but I don't understand every symbol in a schematic.

hmm musta been lost, thanks anyway
do you know what the resistance is for the different settings on the delay switch? I'm trying to create something, i'll post results if my idea works.

I have just re-sent the schematic symbols to you. There is not a resistance value to it, it operates off a logic circuit board in the wiper motor case. If you need it I can send you the chapter on the wipers.

Wow it's like a whole crash course in automotive wiring.. thanks. I may have some toubles with what i'm trying to do then. How does the switch signal different delay times to the motor? I have a bad switch, and every switch in similar car's i've had are similar poor switches. I was trying to modify a switch I have from a newer car, but i would loose my variable delay.

Edit: of couse the original one shows up AFTER the second. ha

It has to do with the wiring from the harness on the steering column to the wiper motor.

What does the wiper switch vary to signal a different delay? As I stated earlier, I assumed resistance, but I am told I am wrong. So what is changed?
