how to wire in new guages and tach
hey guys i have a question i'm hoping yall can answer. i have a LG4 V8 motor. originally was a 305 but put a 350 in place but kept the electronics and emissions from the LG4. i have the HEI mecanical advance distributor. the car has itiot lights (warning lights) and a 85 mph speedo and no tach. i have found a 88 iroc setup with all guages, 145 mph speedo, and tach.
1. my question is what should i do to wire in the guages. once i heard all i need to do is change the sending unit or something.
2. what should i do for the factory tach comming from the 88 iroc cluster.
3. and my next question is, what if i want to install an aftermarket autometer 5 inch tach on the dash. i still want to factory one to work. my friend has a civic (discrace) and he has an autometer tach and factory tach both working. (came like that used). what do i need to do to wire the aftermarket tach so that both factory and aftermarket will work.
4. and my last question is, will the 145 speedo work with the cable from the 85 mph speedo?
thanks any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks again

1. The cluster is plug-n-play. The sending units have to be changed out to make the gauges read though. Oil & temp senders.
2. Tach will work when the cluster is plugged in. The no-tach cluster has a printed circuit that routes the circuits to the proper gauges/idiot lights using the same harness wiring regardless of the cluster option.
3. If you have an aftermarket dist (or even if not), hook the tach lead to the (usually white) tach lead from the coil or dist (depending on dist. type).
4. 85/110/145... all work the same. The gear on the other end of the cable afftects how accurate the speedo is (that and tire size and rear end gearing)
