Short on my Cig lighter
About 2 years ago my cig lighter blew its fuse and melted the wires to it. Anyways i have madeseveral attempts to repair it but it will keep blowing fuses no matter what i do to it so i want to wire it in so it will work maybe tap into another wire? I have tried to follow the wire but it gets lost back in the dash.
I almost want to get one of those 2 into one cig lighter so i can plug my cell phone and my sirius unit into and keep those wires hidden and just leave my actual cig lighter broken since i no longer need to use it. I want to do this right and not make it look like a "hack job"

Best suggestion - if you know a tech see if they can look up and print out a wiring diagram for it.
Learn the basics of electricity
Get a DMM (Digital Multimeter) and learn how to use it.
Just remember if you splice that off of just any wire that you have no idea what it's for, you're asking for trouble. If you want to fix it right you need to find the problem. Blown fuse is a dead giveaway for a short in the circuit. Take the dash apart and FIND where that wire goes to.
Does your horn work by any chance? I haven't looked at the wiring diagram for 3rd gens but I know most cars the horn and the cigarette lighter are on the same circuit. If the horn doesn't work either, it's probably on the same circuit, and you may want to check those wires for a short to ground as well.
But like I said, a wiring diagram for your cig lighter would be handy dandy. Maybe if I remember I'll look it up on Alldata today and see about e-mailing a copy to you.
