MAT sensor, help

I purchased a mat sensor but the connector I think goes to it does not fit. I have put this engine together from a short block and the bad thing is that I am not the one that took it apart. I have attached pictures of the connector and sensor. The connector has two wires one black and the other looks tan.
Thanks

That connector looks like the small dizzy connector.

If I remember correctly the MAT connector and the ignition control module connector are the same. The only difference is that the MAT wires are "black" & "tan" while the ignition control module wires are "pink" & "white". Also the two wire connector that goes to the ignition control module is a short harness that goes to the ignition coil. BTW, there has been more than one person that has gotten them confused and connected them wrong. It definitely made for some interesting results and knowledge of words never thought possible.

The dist connector and the mat connector do look the same, so that means the auto parts store sold me the wrong sensor.

That is possible, I work at an auto parts store and sometimes the aftermarket parts that are supposed to be a direct replacement aren't. Also there are often two or three parts listed as a replacement and you must figure out which one is the correct part. At other times the parts store will just sell you the first part that is listed and hope it is the right one. I like to have customers come in with the old part when possible and then I can cross reference the part numbers to find the right one.
